In February of 2013 Miriam Salat traveled to Guatemala with Water For People, the organization we have been working with for the past few years. After the trip and in honor of Mother’s Day, we are proud to present the Miriam Salat Water For People Collection. This year, give Mom a gift that keeps on giving by providing funding to Water For People’s projects in developing countries all over the world. From India, Africa, Central and South America, Water For People is working to help the world’s 783 million people that do not have access to safe drinking water and 2.5 billion that are without adequate sanitation facilities.
Miriam Salat’s beautiful black Fan cuff is certain to create fireworks while it is auctioned off for a great cause at Sparkle, a Sandy Relief Party on Thursday, December 6th at Greenwich Jewelers in NYC. All the proceeds will be donated to Waves For Water, an organization providing long term, hands-on support, and resources and funding for the rebuilding of the beach communities of NY & NJ. This Mother’s Day give your Mom a gift that goes a step further to support another mother in the developing world. Once again, we are joining forces with Water For People, one of the top NGOs in the world. From April 23rd thru Mother’s Day, May 13th, we are donating 5% of online sales to Water For People.
We’ve told you the astonishing facts before: 783 million people do not have access to safe drinking water and 2.5 billion are without adequate sanitation facilities. Here is something else to think about– Water and sanitation is also a gender issue. In developing countries it is often the women’s role to tend to health, hygiene and nutritional needs. This includes spending as much as 2/3′s of their waking hours sourcing and hauling water to meet the family’s needs, leaving little time for education or community participation.
Water For People works to support women’s leadership in water and sanitation programming throughout the world. They actively seek to ensure women are key players in project planning, implementation and long-term system management. Water For People empowers women and girls in developing countries by designing investments that will provide them with the tools and skills required for economic and social growth in their communities and nation. By helping women and girls access improved water and sanitation facilities in their communities and schools, they are free to pursue their educational and economic opportunities.
Back in December 2011 we joined forces with the amazing nonprofit organization Water For People. We feel so strongly about the work they do that we wanted to show continued support. In celebration of World Water Day on March 22, we are donating 15% of store sales (from our shop in Columbus Circle) and 5% of all web sales during the entire month of March to Water For People! Do good while you shop–simply make a purchase and 5% will automatically be donated!
Every human needs water to survive. Isn’t it crazy that every human does not have access to clean water? Water For People is going after Everyone in the regions where it works. And they are going after Forever. Water For People doesn’t just go into a community, install a well and then leave. They build strong relationships between the local municipality, civil society, and private enterprise to ensure people have lasting access to safe water. They are currently in 11 countries worldwide.
